This year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship is due to commence later this weekend in Koforidua on Saturday, March 2.
Ghana’s Eastern regional capital will host the first of eight zones at the preliminary stage in the 2019 edition of the West African nation’s biggest tertiary basketball competition.
The opening zonal games have All Nations University College, Koforidua Technical University (KTU), Ho Technical University (HTU) and Presbyterian University College competing.
The games are to be staged at the Pope John Senior High School and Junior Seminary with the winner progressing to the national competition to compete against fellow zonal winners at the quarterfinal stage.
All Nations won last year’s zonal qualifiers to progress for the second straight year despite winning one of only two games following Presbyterian University’s late withdrawal.
With all three competing teams having the same record, All Nations progressed thanks to possessing the best point differential of the trio.
KTU and HTU recently competed at the GHATUSA Games earlier this month and are expected to challenge for the sole qualification spot.
