The National Security Minister Albert Kandapaah this morning shed some light on the reasons behind the impasse that led to the separation of former Auditor General Daniel Yaw Domelevo from the government.
In a speech delivered to government agency heads and board chairs on the final day of their retreat at the plush Rock City Hotel, Kandapaah explained the misunderstanding that fueled the impasse.
”My good friend Domelevo believed that the independence referee to in the Audit Act referred to him as an individual,” Kandapaah said.
But as the National Security Minister explained, if you read the act, it clearly indicates that the independence refers to the position, and it calls for the occupant of that position to work with a board, which Domelevo refused to do.
Kandapaah went on to give several examples of instances where the he and the former Auditor General had worked closely together outside of government and even internationally.
But when it came to what needs to be done in the interest of the country, the law must be followed, Kandapaah affirmed.
