Ousted Guinean president Alpha Conde has been release by interim president colonel Mamady Doumbouya to travel abroad for medical treatment after junta’s announcement that the former president was not in good health.
83 years Alpha Conde left the country on Monday January 17, 2022 in the company of two guard and a private doctor, appointed by National Rally Committee for Development leader colonel Mamady. The overthrown leader left for the treatment in Saudi Arabia and has up to one month to return back to his home country Guinea.
The military junta which overthrew Alpha Condé was in September 2021 had kept him in their custody for more than four months.
ECOWAS and other members of the international community had called for Conde’s instantaneous release ever since he was deposed and detained, but junta leader Colonel Mamady would not heed to the directive.
