Former Attorney General of the United States in the Obama administration has expressly called for an indictment of former president Donald Trump to be “seriously considered.”
“To let the administration off the hook, given all that they’ve done, or what we hear that they did, I think is very dangerous for our nation,” Holder said in an interview with MSNBC on May 11.
A good number of former Trump administration officials have written books detailing sometimes shocking behind-the-scenes statements and activities by the former president.
These in addition to the open call Trump made at a rally in front of the White House during which he asked his supporters to march on to Congress and “fight like hell” to stop a process of a peaceful transfer of power.
The supporters walked a few blocks from the White House rally and breached the premises of the US Capitol shouting “Hang Mike Pence,” the Vice President whom Trump had instructed to stop the certification of votes from the states, an instruction that Pence flatly refused to comply with.
The latest revelations are detailed in a book by former Secretary of Defense Marc Esper including a report that then President Rump asked the military brass during a White House meeting “can’t you just shoot (the black Lives Matter protesters) in the legs or something”?
But Trump’s most important potential criminal culpability is being investigated by a Congressional Committee known as the January 6 Committee. Many former Trump administration officials are cooperating with that committee and providing what some committee members characterize as “extremely valuable information.”
Holder went on to acknowledge that indicting a former president would without a doubt be divisive, but he adds that “given the nature of what it is we’re looking at, with people plotting a coup,” I think people need to be held accountable.
